Mathematics:
Geometric String Art
Students design and construct string art projects in order to visualize concepts taught in Geometry class. Each student must creatively interpret diagrams, and create figures and sketches using various tools of Geometry. The curve stitching involved in the project helps students become aware of the ability of line segments to produce the illusion of a curve, and is a precursor for understanding the meaning of tangents to curves.
Click on the student produced video below to view a project on parabolic paths created by sophomores at OLLA using the app. Explain Everything. The students researched parabolas in history and demonstrate its use in programming games. This video allows the student to apply knowledge learned in class to real world situations.
